Learn About The Basics Of CBD
CBD (Cannabidiol) is the most commonly known non-psychoactive cannabinoid contained in hemp and marijuana plants, while tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the only psychoactive cannabinoid currently known.
Hemp oil and hemp derived CBD products contain only trace amounts of THC, less than 0.3% to be considered legal industrial hemp.
Both marijuana and hemp are forms of the cannabis species, however, cannabis does not mean marijuana. Cannabis is the genus name and general umbrella term under which all forms of marijuana and hemp are classified.
Until recently, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or the active form of THC, was the most well-known and studied cannabinoid due to its psychoactive (mind altering) effects, cultural awareness, and mass use worldwide.
Unlike THC, CBD does not cause any psychoactive effects, commonly referred to as “being high,” which is helping contribute to its legalization/decriminalization across the world.
After almost a century of orchestrated fear and propaganda, we are now beginning to truly understand the CBD molecule and its potential. CBD does not typically have any immediate noticeable effects, though some would say otherwise when using strong concentrations known as “full spectrum extracts”.
Our CBD products and extracts are derived from hemp (not marijuana), and can also be referred to as CBD-rich hemp flower, oil, hemp-derived CBD oil, CBD-rich cannabis oil, or plainly “hemp flowers and extracts,” since they typically contain more cannabinoids and aromatic compounds than just CBD alone.
However, CBD oil is different from hemp seed oil and organic hemp oil, as these are derived from hemp seeds (not the resin) and do not contain cannabidiol.
Secret Nature's products are derived from hemp plants grown legally in Colorado and Oregon, and all products are thoroughly tested to assure safety, quality, and cannabinoid content.
1.) How Does CBD Work?
Hemp derived CBD works by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is a complex colony of cannabinoid receptors found throughout the entire human body, these receptors are also found in almost all animal species.
Primarily these receptors are found in the brain and central nervous system, where their concentration is most prevalent. While CBD is considered a phytocannabinoid, or plant-based cannabinoid, the human body naturally produces its own cannabinoids as well, known as endocannabinoids.
Almost every organ of the human body, including the heart, lungs, skin and digestive tract, contain cannabinoid receptors. The endocannabinoid system has four primary functions that have been identified, including neuroprotection, stress relief, immune response, and regulating homeostasis, impacting faculties such as appetite, sleep, emotions, and pain.
CBD, unlike THC, does not interact directly with the two classic cannabinoid receptors most commonly studied and referred to (the CB1 and CB2 receptors). This is why CBD does not cause any psychoactive effect or “high”. Instead, CBD slows down the enzymes that break down your body’s own naturally occurring endocannabinoids, leading to an increased concentration flowing throughout your system.
2.) What Does CBD Feel Like?
CBD doesn’t make you feel high, paranoid, or mentally incapacitated. While cannabis has gotten a bad name due to THC, this plant isn’t inherently an intoxicating drug. Other cannabinoids, for instance, like CBD, CBG, and CBN, aren’t intoxicating even though they offer incredible potential.
Most users report that CBD has a mild, relaxing effect that doesn’t get in the way of their day-to-day duties. The effects of smoked or vaporized CBD are stronger and more immediate, but the impact of this cannabinoid remains gentle.
CBD may interact with certain blood pressure drugs and other pharmaceutical medications, so it’s always important to consult with your primary physician before using any new substance. At the same time, however, CBD does not have any major reported side effects. Many natural treatments are superior to their pharmaceutical counterparts.
Like all forms of cannabis, intoxicating and non-intoxicating, CBD can cause dry mouth and drowsiness. This cannabinoid does not, however, have many of the characteristic qualities of high-THC cannabis. Most importantly, CBD does not appear to be habit-forming, which alleviates some of the more pressing concerns many people have over widespread marijuana legalization.
CBD may, in fact, actually interact with THC and the other cannabinoids to modify their effects. We will need to wait for the science on CBD to mature to provide any clear facts on what CBD does or doesn’t do, but the fact remains that millions of people around the world have decided to include this non-intoxicating cannabinoid in their natural health routines.
3.) How Long Does CBD Oil Last?
The duration of the effects of CBD oil depend on the way that you ingest it. When you ingest CBD oil orally, for instance, the effects may last as long as six hours. The bioavailability of oral administration, however, is greatly reduced compared to other ways you can use CBD.
When you smoke or vape CBD flower, the effects are immediate and they can last as long as an hour. Even after the main effects have dissipated, the CBD you inhaled will continue to exert systemwide benefits.
Since they are fat-soluble compounds, cannabinoids stay in your system for around 30 days, and any time you ingest cannabinoids, they modify your endocannabinoid system in ways that can last months or even years.
You may find that the effects of inhaled CBD last longer when you ingest slightly more. Regardless of how much you use or which way you use it, CBD exerts effects for between 30 minutes and six hours, and these effects are mild and non-intoxicating.
4.) How Much CBD Should I Take?
The FDA has not provided any suggested use recommendations for CBD or any other cannabis products. When offering our own suggested use information on CBD, we generally use clinical studies as our criteria. While there is no established baseline for CBD dosage within the scientific community, it’s possible to extract an average dose from the data that are available.
People generally use between 5-200mg of CBD at a time. If an average hit of CBD flower includes about 100mg of total plant oils, for instance, and the hemp flower strain in question contained 20% cannabidiol, then the hit would contain 20mg CBD, a normal dose statistically speaking. While making the art of smoking CBD flower into an exact science takes time and effort, this cannabinoid ingestion method offers the most potential for personalization.
We recommend that people who are new to CBD use small quantities of this cannabinoid to start. While CBD has a mild effect overall, it can take your body some time to get used to the new substance you’re ingesting.
Scientists postulate that the human nervous system contains an endocannabinoid system (ECS), an endogenous system of receptors and transmitters that closely mimic phytocannabinoids (cannabinoids found in plants). As your ECS gets used to the CBD you’re smoking, vaping, or ingesting orally, larger doses may be desired.
5.) How Long Do CBD Vape Pens Last?
Secret Nature vape pens contain your choice of 700mg or 1200mg of live cannabis resin, which is the purest and safest form of hemp extract ever devised. Live resin captures the oil profile of cannabis right as it reaches its prime and before drying and decarboxylation.
Due to its clearly superior quality, you may even need to use less Secret Nature CBD resin than you expected, allowing your vape pen to last longer.
A gram of oil in a vape cartridge lasts about 50-100 hits depending on the size of hit you take. Therefore, you can expect a 700mg Secret Nature cartridge to last around 35-70 hits, and you can expect a 1200mg CBD cart to last 60-120 hits.
The battery in your Secret Nature vape pen is rechargeable, so there is no need to disconnect your cartridge from your battery until the cart is out of oil.
CBD oil lasts approximately one year on the shelf. You can extend the shelf life of your Secret Nature vape cartridges by keeping them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
6.) What Does CBD Oil Do?
After just a couple of minutes scrolling through Secret Nature customer reviews, it’s becomes clear that CBD has powerful effects that transform lives. How, exactly, does CBD exert its reported effects in the human body? First, it’s important to note that, unlike THC, CBD does not appear to interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors.
These two neuroreceptors are responsible for the intoxicating effects of THC. Once activated, the CB1 and CB2 receptors essentially flood your brain with endorphins, which can result in addictive tendencies.
Instead of interacting with these intoxicating neuroreceptors, CBD appears to primarily affect the 5-HT1A and TRPV1 receptors in the brain.
The 5-HT1A receptor is the brain’s most plentiful neuroreceptor, and it is responsible for generating serotonin. TRPV1, on the other hand, handles spicy tastes and impacts inflammatory pain.
Both of these neuroreceptor systems affect the brain gently without causing any intoxicating effects. It’s likely that CBD affects the brain in a variety of other ways as well that we simply haven’t discovered yet.
Let’s be clear about what CBD doesn’t do. Cannabidiol does not get you high, it doesn’t make you hallucinate, and it doesn’t make you paranoid. It might make you slightly sleepy, so make sure you’re somewhere safe and relaxed before you use CBD for the first time.
When all’s said and done, however, CBD is a gentle plant substance with very intriguing mechanisms of action.
7.) What Is Full-Spectrum CBD?
There are three types of CBD, and there are also a few sub-types you should know about. The three main cannabidiol forms are isolate CBD, which contains nothing but cannabidiol molecules, full-spectrum CBD, and broad-spectrum CBD. Full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD oil are very similar, but cannabidiol oil in full-spectrum form may contain up to 0.3% THC. Let’s break down the details:
Isolate CBD
Taking on a crystalline or powdered form, isolate CBD contains nothing but 99.9% pure cannabidiol. It might be less effective, though.
Full-spectrum CBD
Unless it’s processed beyond extraction, CBD remains full-spectrum, which means it contains the full entourage of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids present in mature cannabis flower. All Secret Nature products contain natural, full-spectrum CBD.
Broad-spectrum CBD
A new process removes the THC from full-spectrum CBD oil while leaving the rest of the natural constituents of hemp extract intact. This type of CBD oil may be beneficial from a regulatory standpoint.
Winterized hemp flower extract
Some full-spectrum CBD is winterized, which is a process that removes the chlorophyll and other plant matter while leaving cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids intact.
Hemp flower distillate
Distillate removes even more of the natural plant matter in cannabis oil. Secret Nature vape cartridges contain live resin, which is the most advanced form of cannabis distillate ever devised.
